My father fought a different kind of fight Working his job all day, another one at night His fighting days are done, but you can see that I’ve got on the colors that my father wore I’m wearing the same colors that my father wore C’mon an’ hit me It’ll push me just a little bit more I don’t mean to frighten you but understand the guy you’re fighting here today could be a wealthy man if I had a dime for every single time I’ve pulled myself up off the floor All the times I’ve pulled myself up off the floor C’mon an’ hit me It’ll push me just a little bit more Hit me Everyone I’ve ever known has felt a hurricane wind blow and they’ve done all that they could do to stand their ground All I gotta do is stand your blows for one more round... C’mon an’ hit me It’ll push me just a little bit more Hit me My own son will be coming any day He’ll be a fighter like his old man in his own way That’s the reason why if you look me in the eye you’ll see a look you’ve never seen before you’ll see a look you’ve never seen before There’s a look in my eyes that ain’t been there before

about

It's the taking part that counts - a global pop sportsday is a compilation of 26 exclusive tracks, by 26 indie, folk and electronic artists, one for each of the 26 Olympic sports... it includes exclusive tunes from (among others) Saint Etienne (athletics), White Town (weightlifting), Darren Hayman (wrestling), Hannah Peel (hockey), the Butterflies of Love (basketball) and Archbishop Desmond Tutu (football)... a track is previewed every week up to the games on the blog - wiaiwya-itsthetakingpartthatcounts.blogspot.co.uk .

Where possible, acts with an association with each sport have been chosen to do the relevant tracks, for example Jyoti from chart toppers White Town dabbles in weightlifting, DJ Downfall's hobby is archery, Liam massiveannefrank is a triathlete and Igancio Hacia Dos Veranos' brother was an Argentinean tae kwon do champion... for his modern pentathlon track Simon Fox has written 5 five line verses for a song in 5/4 time, coming it at exactly 5 minutes... Hannah Peel reminisces about a bullying Hockey teacher, and Darren Hayman also goes back to school for “Bundle!” his surf/garage wrestling anthem... and then of course for cycling it had to be Town Bike, canoe & kayak had to be Floatation Toy Warning, and who else could do ping pong but Hong Kong In the 60s?
